Where Does Mold Grow

Each of us is exposed to mold almost every day either by touching it or breathing in mold spores.  It is everywhere in our environment and to think that you can live in a totally mold-free environments is really not possible.  Many factors influence if you will get sick from mold exposure which are: how long you are exposed, the amount of toxic mold spores, and your health history. We know that the elderly, women who are pregnant, infants, and anyone with autoimmune conditions are at greater risk for developing serious medical conditions to mold exposure.

Mold produces allergens, irritants and in many cases toxins which can cause health problems if the mold is left to grow and spread toxins.  Mold symptoms vary from person to person and they often times mimic those of a common cold. These symptoms could include headaches, runny eyes and nose, sneezing, skin rashes, difficulty breathing or nasal congestion.   You can have more serious health condition for those who are allergic to mold may develop wheezing, shortness of breath, cardiac problems to bleeding into the lungs

Mold can grow almost anywhere you have moisture and a food supply.  Areas that are prone to increased humidity would include your bathroom, kitchen, utility room, basements, crawl spaces, or areas that flood. Once mold enter your property they have a buffet as a food source. Items like wall paper glue, wood furniture, and wet carpet, ceiling tiles, gypsum or particle are some of their favorite foods.  Most of these products are readily available in most properties today. Once mold is established it will continue to grow and spread until you identify and correct the moisture problem.  Your attention should be focused on identifying the type of mold and killing the mold, its roots and the  toxic mold spores.

Typically mold can grow and spread all over your home provided that there is an excessive amount of moisture or high level of humidity in the place. Moisture is a common occurrence in these particular areas of your home— bathroom, basement, kitchen, laundry areas, attic, sink and others. In addition to that, flood, leaky roof, damages pipes and blocked drainage can be a good source of moisture in your home that encourages the molds to grow. Regardless what would be the cause of mold growths, keep in mind that it is always essential to remove the molds as soon as possible to avoid serious situations.

When mold is left untreated and are allowed to grow in your home, they can fill your home with strong moldy odor which is certainly not good for your nose and lungs. Molds can make your home look unsightly and unpleasant due to the damages they can cause. Last but not the least; untreated molds could possibly pose a lot of negative health effects to your family. Therefore, molds should be assessed by a certified industrial hygienist or mold tester professional in your home in order to get rid of them properly and safely.
